Tabor’s color code system (green, yellow, orange, and red) is currently inactive. The college will update and release its safety protocols as needed.

In accordance with Section 18004 of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Tabor College provides the following required quarterly report.

The below updates are released as adjustments are made to COVID protocols on campus.

COVID update from Tabor College campus

Sept. 23, 2021

Tabor College has a total of 18 active cases on campus as of Thursday, Sept. 23.

Tabor College has followed its operational protocols of testing students with symptoms, isolating students who test positive, and conducting contact tracing and quarantining students who have been in contact with the positive cases. Isolated students are asked to do so at home. Those who are not able to isolate at home are required to isolate in college housing.

In preparation for Friday’s Inauguration of President David S. Janzen, the college has implemented vaccination guidelines or mandatory testing for any student participating in the dinner, ceremony, or reception. Each of these students is required to show a vaccination card or be tested the morning of the event.

“As has been stated numerous times this semester, I strongly encourage you to get vaccinated if you have not already,” Janzen said. “It protects you and is a blessing to others. Our prayers are with those who have COVID, that they would recover quickly, and with our entire community that we would love each other as Christ loves us.”

Tabor College is in regular communication with the Marion County Health Department and will announce any significant further changes at the appropriate time.

Tabor College returning to pre-COVID operational levels for fall 2021 semester

July 22, 2021

All Tabor classes and activities will return to pre-COVID operational levels on Aug. 1. There will be no physical distancing requirement in classes or in the dining hall. All sporting and arts events are fully open to the public with no restrictions. Face masks are optional at all campus events.

“State and county regulations have all been lifted, and we believe it is safe to eliminate all capacity limits and mask requirements,” President David Janzen said.

Students and employees are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated. Ideally, students would return to campus with a record of their vaccination. Tabor will be hosting vaccination clinics with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine (one-shot protocol) at the start of the semester. This is free for all faculty, staff, and students. Vaccinated students, faculty, and staff will not have to quarantine in the event that they are exposed to someone with COVID.

“We are working with medical providers to provide COVID testing on an as-needed basis,” Janzen said. “If a student tests positive, they will be asked to isolate in their room or return home. As you have probably read, COVID continues to spread in the state and there are concerns about variants. We will continue to monitor the situation.”

Should there be a need to move to one of the color-coded risk levels, the college can do so almost instantly.

“I hope that we can create a culture where everyone feels comfortable wearing a mask, distancing, and not shaking hands if they choose,” Janzen said. “Many of us noticed the lack of common illnesses such as colds and flu this past year. If you have a cough or are sneezing, please consider wearing a mask to help prevent the spread.”
